Roger Federer vs. Mikhail Youzhny : 2011 Wimbledon Match Preview

Roger Federer vs. Mikhail Youzhny : 2011 Wimbledon Match Preview

Roger Federer is looking ominous at Wimbledon – his favourite hunting region, where he has triumphed sixth times. Well, one more title here and Federer will equal Pete Sampras’ record of seven Wimbledon titles. When asked about it, the Swiss replied, “Tying Pete in any stats means you're right up there with maybe the greatest, one of the greatest players of all times, and that's always a nice thing."

The Swiss ace next faces a tricky opponent in the form of Mikhail Youzhny of Russia.

Roger Federer made a perfect start to his 2011 Wimbledon campaign by earning a straight sets 7-6 (2) 6-4 6-2 victory over Kukushkin. He then dispatched Adrian Mannarino 6-2 6-3 6-2 in just 1 hour and 28 minutes and downed David Nalbandian of Argentina 6-4,6-2,6-2 in the third round in the third round.

Federer loves to play at Wimbledon and after his final run at Roland Garros earlier this month, the Swiss Ace has further bolstered his chances of clinching the title this year. The Swiss ace has a decent 36-8 win-loss record this year and most of these defeats have come against Nadal and Djokovic. But, one thing that looks absurd in his new season’s stats is that Federer could only manage to win a single ATP title in 2011 so far – that too in January in Doha.

Federer’s opponent Youzhny is currrently ranked at number 17 in the world. Youzhny has been putting in his best at the sport and has fought memorable battles before. He is on his path of resurrection after an injury and has improved to number 17 with consistent performances this year.

Both players have met 10 times before and it's Federer who has emerged victorious each time. Last time they met at Roland Garros'2007 where 7-6(3), 6-4, 6-4. This will be the third time both will be playing on grass and Federer is certainly crushing favourite in this match.
