2010 BNP Paribas Masters Semifinal Preview - Federer vs. Monfils
Adding another upset to his giant-killing spree on home soil, Gael Monfils, the 2009 finalist took out Scot Andy Murray in yesterday's quarterfinal to set up a clash with top seed Roger Federer at the BNP Paribas Masters, the season's last ATP Masters series event, being played here in Paris, France.
Monfils recently returned to winner's circle with a win in the French city of Montpellier which is a clear indication that the acrobatic Frenchman manages to bring his best results in front of the electric crowd support. Monfils wins over Fernando Verdasco and then Andy Murray is a strong testimonial of his scintillating form right now.
Monfils' opponent and top seed Roger Federer has been unchalleneged so far in the tournament. In all his straight sets wins this week, his victory over Jurgen Melzer was most impressive with the opening set lasting just 20 minutes. Federer already has four titles this season that include a major in Australia among titles in Cincinnati, Stockholm and Basel last week.
Both players have met a total of 5 times before with Federer maintaining a flawless 5-0 head-to-head. The pair's last meeting also came in Paris on clay at Roland Garros where Federer prevailed in straight sets.
